The Mirror
We look in the mirror to check and see if our hair, outfit, and general appearance look good before we go into the public. The mirror we use to shave or put on eye lashes are small to zero in on the area that we are focusing on. We use fell length mirrors to see the entirety of our physical presence. We use these mirrors as tools to guide us in determining the physical image we will take into the day. In all cases, we try to use mirrors that have surfaces that are not distorted and have proper lighting to provide us the best image feedback for our physical review.
However, the physical image we see in the mirror is not the reflection of our inner self. An inner self that we assign to feelings rather than to introspection. An introspection that takes a different type of mirror to see ourselves. Unfortunately, this mirror is distorted and has bad lighting making it hard to see the true image of our (inner) self. We might turn to others (therapy, friends, loved ones, et al) to improve the distortion of the mirror of our inner self and that can be helpful. However, we do not have a proper basis on what to view until we start from a place of “who am I.” We need to start foundationally, and that foundation starts (and ends) with God.
I encourage you to look into that distorted mirror and realize that you were custom created purposefully by a Creator, God. That He values you so much that He was willing to sacrifice on the cross to do the work necessary to give you the way back to Him. That if He was willing to die to that, He will do anything for you in your life journey to become the person He designed and created You to be. That this life hones us in becoming that purposeful creation and that life is a journey to accomplish this. That the mirror is God which provides a reflection to better understand ourselves, for our growth, and to see what priorities in our life should or should not be there.
The mirror of God gives us that clear reflection to look at our inner self not in judgment but for improvement; not in lack but in abundance, and not in dejection but in hope. I encourage you today to sink deeper into a prayer life that expands from petitions to seeking His face as the mirror of your inner self which is the engine that drives your thought life.
Father, guide me into a richer prayer life. To take self-reflection into God reflection. Reflections to better understand myself, for my faith to grow, and to put a finger on priorities that should not be there. A prayer life that seeks You not only in thought but in intimacy (closeness). Not only in words but in experience. To dig in and truly feel Your presence in thought and words. Bless my efforts to go deeper and for my desire and hunger to be more intentional in my prayer life. That I digest Your living Word (Scripture) with seeking and intentionality. A digesting of Your Word that is beyond reading to take it to the place where You are speaking to me through Your Word. To see Your reflection and filter my life journey through that reflection to better understand myself, for my faith to grow, and to put a finger on priorities that should not be there. In His name I pray! Amen!
