Relationship

Father, thank you for the gift of mercy and grace.  A grace given freely by You and one that I did not and cannot earn.  In that grace, You instruct us to pray which puts us in a position of vertical thinking (You on the throne, You as the Creator, and us as creations) rather than horizontal thinking which is the norm and the way of this world.  You designed us to seek life, hope, peace, rest, contentment, identity, meaning and purpose, inner peace and motivation.  In horizontal sole thinking, we will seek these things through creation (ourselves and this world) ignoring the Source and the Giver, You.  Vertical thinking points us to You who alone has the ability to satisfy our heart.  A satisfaction found in the vertical relationship with You and provided through grace in horizontal living.  A horizontal living where we don’t seek satisfaction in this world through our demands and wants but one where we are available for You to assist others; a giving for receiving.  A horizontal living where we strengthen our faith.  A horizontal living that illuminates to a watching world the vertical relationship we have with You.  A horizontal living where our thoughts, our words and actions reflect what we think of You and the grace that You have gifted us.  Prayer is that discipline of aligning myself vertically to do Your good works horizontally.  Thank you for Your grace and the privilege of the vertical relationship with You.Relationship
